High Efficiency Washing Machines
Washing machines can be a large source of water conservation. Traditional top loading washers can routinely use up to 40 gallons of water per load. An American family is estimated to do upwards of 400 loads of laundry a year. That's 16,000 gallons of water a year used. Compare that to a side load washer, which uses only 10 to 24 gallons, which comes out to between 4,000 and 9,600 gallons a year. That means with a side loading high efficiency washer you could conserve at least half you water usage devoted to laundry.
