The U.S. Green Building Council awarded Platinum certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) for Homes rating system to Philadelphia homeowner Shannon Price Slusher, for renovations done to his Fairmount neighborhood row home. The property, located on North 27th Street, is the first Philadelphia "rehab" row home to attain LEED for Homes (LfH) Platinum certification - the LEED® system’s highest rating.

As employees are required to gain additional certifications and specializations within the their industries, one fact has become clear: Credentials Matter. To address this emerging reality, ECA will be holding a conference on April 21st that will address in detail upcoming developments in energy efficiency credentials. Speakers will discuss the role of community colleges, the focus on national standards, stresses on the current workforce, and training for master trainers. An intimate afternoon session will include two panel discussions on the topics of "Building Science Pipeline from high School to College" and "Life After ARRA: Becoming Self-Sustaining." Expected to attend are important figures from a variety of organizations, including BPI, DOE, IREC, DCED, and the City of Philadelphia. Click here to register for the conference today!

ECA has partnered with the Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) to distribute and install rain barrels throughout the city as part of Philadelphia’s stormwater management plan—the most ambitious plan of its kind in the country. Aaron Slater and Jerry Bennet of ECA are leading the push for green stormwater management practices, creating jobs by employing local residents in the manufacture and installation of up to 2,600 rain barrels. ECA and PWD are also providing education to Philadelphia residents about the uses of rain barrels and the effects of stormwater. Click here to learn more about ECA’s rain barrels.

The Philadelphia Gas Works (PGW) today announced that it will increase what residential customers pay of r natural gas for the next three months. The average residential heating customer will pay about $8.27 more per month. The change reflects an increase in the forecasted price of the gas purchased from suppliers.
