Delaware County Environmental Fair
The story begins in 2009 when members of Swarthmore Presbyterian Church decided to hold an Environmental Fair the following spring, to highlight the Church's own energy efficiency improvements and to advance the idea of environmental stewardship. SPC had recently received the EPA's coveted "Energy Star Congregation" award, and took this as an opportunity to educate both its own members and the community at large.
The 2010 Fair featured presentations by local experts, displays by installers of energy-efficient systems, alternative energy vendors, and information booths from nonprofits and government. More than 300 people attended the Fair, which filled nearly every available space in the church.
Overall, the 2011 & 2012 Environmental Fairs drew over 500 visitors, with more than 35 exhibitors, and comments were enthusiastic from all sides.
The 2013 Fair will be even more exciting. New activities are being added to support a county-wide reach.
