Course Length: 1 day

Course Description: In collaboration with representatives from the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), the Department of Labor and Industry (L & I), and weatherization assistance providers across the state, the Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corporation (CPWDC) and Tuscarora Intermediate Unit 11 (TIU 11) have developed a consumer education course for weatherization assistance providers. This one-day course will assist provider staff in developing and enhancing the customer education process.

Multiple opportunities for consumer education occur in the weatherization process from initial contact through inspection. The course  identifies the most common opportunities and presents ideas and strategies to develop the education process and consumer buy-in. Participants will define their provider’s current customer process and develop strategies to incorporate additional opportunities for education into the existing customer flow. Course content includes strategies for in-home, adult education, planning to address the needs of a wide range of customers, actions to promote systematic, behavioral change, and self-evaluation tools and processes. The course will also review DCED and L & I requirements for best practices in consumer education and development of a meaningful individual energy reduction plan for customers.

The course is appropriate for new and seasoned educators and/or auditors, as well as any provider who sees the opportunity to improve his or her agency’s consumer education strategies and outcomes.
