In March 2010 ECA opened the Knight Green Jobs Training Center which prepares men and women to enter the growing clean energy job market. ECA offers industry-driven training that includes classroom, hands-on training, and field experience. The Center features state of the art heating and insulation labs, life-sized mock ups, and a house of pressures lab.  ECA has trained over 2,000 men and women, including over 400 trained to Building Performance Institute (BPI) standards. ECA partners with the Community College of Philadelphia to provide an Associate’s Degree in Building Science.

ECA renovated a 150 year old factory building to the LEED Gold standard for the training center.  We walk the talk.

ECA’s LEED Certified training center was proclaimed a “Center of Excellence” in February  2012 for its exemplary efforts in the development and delivery of programs that adhere to national standards.  The Center expects to be ISO 9000 certified and IREC accredited by the summer of 2012.

Certified Building Operators play a pivital role in determining that multi-family and commercial buildings are operating at optimum performance to assure energy efficiency.  ECA’s training center has developed a Building Operator course that prepares individuals to challenge the Building Performance Institute exams that lead to BPI’s National Certification for Building Operators.

ECA employs BPI Certified proctors for written and field exams in:  Building Analyst, Whole House Air Sealing and Insulation, Envelop, Heater Specialist and Multi-Family Building Analyst .  Testing is offered monthly.  Click here for the schedule.

Energy Analyst, Whole House Air Sealing and Insulation, Heating Specialist, Multi-Family Analyst, Building Operator, NREL Installer, Crew Chief, Auditor and Quality Inspector, OSHA 10 & 30, EPA RRP, Foam Roof Insulation, Reflective Roof Coating, Stormwater Management and Weatherization & Retrofit. 

Stormwater Management  In partnership with the Philadelphia Water Department, ECA  is training  contractors and residents in stormwater management,  including downspout  disconnects and planters, rain gardens, rain barrel fabrication and installation, tree planting, and other stormwater management measures

ALL ECA instructors have the required state or national certifications to teach the curriculum.  Continuous professional development is on-going to assure currency of content.

ECA provides curriculum, Train the Trainer programs, and technical assistance to help  other training centers develop the curriculum and infrastructure to deliver quality programs.  BPI has approved our Weatherization and Retrofit curriculum for 48.5 CEU’s.  This program aligns with the new NREL national standards and is the most comprehensive and current program on the market.
